The life of every living thing on earth is like a shadow, we all are temporary residents. No one will stay on earth forever. Just as we came, so shall we depart from the surface a day to come. 1 Peter 2:11, 1 Chronicles 29:15, Hebrews 13:14.
Therefore the question is “where are we going when we exit this world?”
The Bible tells us of two places called “Hell” and “Heaven”. Hell is a place for suffering, pain and misery filled with fire. Matthew 13:49-50 “This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth”
Heaven on the other hand is a place of happiness, joy, peace, a living with God, Jesus and the angels. Revelation 21:3-4 describe Heaven to be a place of perfection. It says “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them and be their God. ….he will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away”.
So now reader, I’m asking you this question, “which of these two places would you like to be?” Heaven, right? The good news is that, heaven is opened to all people, but there are principles to obey in order to enter the kingdom. This is because, Christianity is a way of life that is lived by principles. Principles are set of important underlying laws required in a system. To be able to enter the kingdom of heaven, the following important requirements must be observed and achieved.
- BE BORN AGAIN
John 3:5 Jesus answered, “very truly I tell you, on one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit (Holy Spirit)”
Jesus in His teaching is making us understand that the first principle to enter the kingdom is to become a new person; by means of water and the Holy Spirit baptism. This is the principle of being born again. The first stage in the born again cycle is to repent from your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour. It Baptism by water and Holy Spirit is a ceremony that automatically ushers you into the kingdom of God. Water baptism commission you into the person of Christ Jesus, whiles the Holy Spirit baptism commission you into the power of Christ Jesus.
Water baptism is dipping someone into water for cleansing away of sins. Holy Spirit baptism is the descending of the Holy Spirit, filling up and dwelling in the body of an individual. When these two experiences take place in your life, you have qualified for the kingdom of God.
- RECEIVE THE KINGDOM WITH YOUR HEART
Mark 10:15, “truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it”.
Jesus uses the example of a child to illustrate this point. We must receive the kingdom “like a child”. Here, the Greek word translated as “child” refers to the youngest and most helpless of children. Moreover the youngest children cannot do anything for themselves. They cannot make any tangible contribution to the functioning of the household. In fact, they are desperately needy; they need helpers. That is how we are in relation to our Father in heaven. Christ is calling us to utter dependence on Him as the way into His kingdom; because He is our Saviour and Helper. We rely completely on His mercy for our salvation and, indeed, for our every need. Only by admitting this can we be part of the kingdom of God. And as a child welcome anything that comes His way with joy, humility, obedience etc, so must we also welcome the kingdom.
- DO THE WILL OF GOD
Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
This is the principle of doing the will of the Father who lives in Heaven. In our modern world, every landlord/house owner will only rent out their house or room to those who comply with their rules and regulations. It is so with the kingdom of heaven. The kingdom of heaven is a place that belongs to someone called Jehovah; the creator of the universe, God of Abraham, David, Israel, etc. If you don’t abide by His word and live to please Him on earth, He cannot entrust His kingdom to you. What is the will of the Father? Deuteronomy 10:12-13 “And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?”
- LIVE A RIGHTEOUS LIFE
Matthew 5:20, “for I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisee and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven”.
Teachers of the law are people responsible for explaining the law; and the Pharisees were people who strictly obeyed the law. And yet, it seems their righteousness was not complete. The righteousness was a kind not to glorify God but to seek outward applause for them. Their righteousness was not from a pure heart. Making them for go the most important part of the law and settling for the least. Wherefore Christ informs us, that we must have a better righteousness than these men if we want to inherit the kingdom of heaven.
Dear reader, this is the gospel of Jesus. Without any of these four principles, no one can enter into the kingdom of heaven. Take note; Heaven and Hell are real. Jesus is coming soon repent. Thank you.
