Too much of everything is definitely bad for you, not to mention of harmful for your health. While condoms are one of the greatest inventions known to mankind and helps avoid the danger of STDs, unwanted pregnancies and the control of high sensitivity in some men, it does have some side effects and they cannot be ignored.

Here are few side effects of condom that you never knew:

A DAMAGING IMMUNE SYSTEM RESPONSE

Condoms are usually made from latex although some are also made from animal skin. Latex is the fluid that is obtained from rubber trees. Latex contains a compound called protein. As we all know, the immune system is the soldier of the body; it protect the body from disease and substances that can cause harm to it. The protein in the condom poses a threat whenever it comes into contact with the immune system, causing a damaging response by the immune system to the body. This reaction is called allergy. The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology notes that some people experience an allergic response to the protein in the rubber.

The symptoms of allergy are sneezing, runny nose, hives, itching or flushing, wheezing, swelling, dizziness, and light-headedness. These symptoms occur after sex.

In certain instances, it can invoke anaphylaxis, a life-threatening condition.

ACQUIRING OTHER STD’S

Condoms are proven highly effective against HIV and reduce the risk of other diseases, such as syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea and HPV.

However, they do not afford protection against sexually transmitted diseases that can affect the outer layers of the skin, such as scabies infection; a contagious skin disease marked by intense itching, inflammation and red papules, and molluscum contagiosum; a viral skin infection characterized by numerous small round dimpled pearly white nodules. The virus can be released from an infected sexual partner without notice into the uninfected partner’s skin.

CANCER IN WOMEN

The male condom can cause cancer in the woman. The condom contains a compound called is talc, a dry lubricant used on the surface of condoms. Studies have linked talc to ovarian cancer and to fibrosis on fallopian tubes, thus making the woman infertile.

Not forgetting the issue of pregnancy. Condoms are mostly used to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. However, if used in an improper manner 15 out of 100 women get pregnant.
